🚑 Whisper's Ambulance
Whisper has a Toyota Land Cruiser ambulance 🚙, a generous gift 🎁 from a Ugandan-born female entrepreneur and long-term supporter who understands the importance of the work the hospital does 🏥. It saves extra lives ❤️ not just by sailing past traffic jams 🚦 but also by allowing us to perform some procedures such as blood transfusions 🩸 on the way to the hospital, saving precious time ⏳. We use it to transport children 👶🏾 to our own hospital and to other hospitals 🏥, as the patient requires. With your help 🤝🏼, we can use it more often.
❓ Why an Ambulance?
Hundreds of children 👶🏾 and new mothers 🤰🏾 lose their lives 💔 in Uganda because there's no emergency transport to hospital. Ambulances 🚑 are still uncommon, and roads are often congested 🚗🚙🚗, particularly in the capital Kampala and on the road between Kampala and our city Jinja. Most people travel to hospital on motorbike taxis 🏍️ (boda-bodas), in crowded minibuses 🚐 (matatus) or on foot 🚶🏾. Before the ambulance, we had to transport patients in personal cars 🚗, which are unsuitable for critically ill patients, who may need oxygen or other lifesaving interventions such as blood transfusions 🩸 while they are travelling.
